I have been getting VERY worried about my missing magic key. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to deliver presents Christmas Eve! I hope this latest email from Scunner the Grumpy Elf has good news in it.
The Professor fixed your sleigh and we started our long journey home. I felt like crying and Glaikit looked so sad. We had lost your key and worse, we had lost poor Birly. Tumshie was so tired, but brave and he pulled us back North.

I’m not sure if he was trying to come back home, but Scunner the Grumpy Elf ended up at the South Pole. He’s still looking for the magic key I need back before Christmas Eve. Here’s his latest email.
Oh Santa, I am so sorry. We haven’t found your key or poor Birly. We flew after the reindeer and Birly but then the sleigh started to make some funny noises. It was a sound like metal squealing and the Professor said we had to land. He had some repairs to make.

Here is the latest email from Scunner the Grumpy Elf. He’s still trying to catch a wild reindeer that has the magic key I need to get into houses on Christmas Eve!
What a long flight we’ve had. It took Professor Fumblebumble quite a long time to track the reindeer down. I think it was because he had gone so far. Birly thinks that he’s travelling so fast because it’s getting close to Christmas. She might be right. I think the magic gets stronger the closer we get to the 24th.
Anyway, we tracked him down to another desert. This time we saw a big red rock in the middle of it. Poor Tumshie needed a rest so we landed near a drinking hole. The reindeer was still quite a distance away and it looked like a long walk. Glaikit, Professor Fumblebumble and I sat around trying to think of the best way to get to the reindeer and your key.
“I’ve got us some help boys.” Birly said from behind us. We turned around to see her sitting on the back of a big, snow-white Boomer (that’s a kangaroo). She told us that she had asked for help and he had agreed. I climbed on its back behind Birly. Glaikit got into its pouch and off we hopped.
Oh Santa, it was brilliant fun. Like being on a Rollercoaster. We hopped and hopped. We bounced and bounced. Glaikit felt seasick. Then we saw the reindeer. It looked awfy sad.
As the kangaroo hopped nearer Birly surprised me by jumping off. She landed right on the reindeers back and he got such a surprise he took off. All we could do was watch as they flew away.
Oh, I was awfy worried.
We got back to the sleigh, said cheerio to the kangaroo and took off.
I hope we find her.
Poor Birly. I hope she’s all right. I wonder where they could end up next?

Have you ever heard of a Christmas camel? Well, today Scunner the Grumpy Elf, told me all about a Christmas camel he found in Egypt. Scunner was in Egypt looking for my magic key.
Wow. What an adventure we have had in Egypt. It was a long flight but the Professor was sure that the key was still there. When we arrived we flew over these big pointed buildings and a statue of a lion with a man’s face. Birly wanted to land and take some photographs but the Professor said that we had to go much further.
So we started flying above this huge big river. I don’t know what the river was called. Glaikit said that it must be the Amazon but he’s awfy daft.
Anyway the SPS started bleeping like mad and the Professor told us to land. We were in the middle of a desert and there were loads of camels. Birly saw a pair of antlers in the middle of them all. We had found the reindeer that has your magic key.
I told everyone that we had to be quiet so we didn’t scare him away. So Birly, Glaikit and I started creeping across the sand. We were very quiet until I heard Glaikit starting to scream. He had put a carrot in his back pocket to try and lure the reindeer. One of the camels had seen it and tried to take it from his pocket but had also taken a mouthful of his troosers.
The reindeer heard the commotion and took off again. The camel ran off in the different direction. We had to go after Glaikit and the camel. It took us two hours to catch him. Camel’s run awfy fast at times.
Glaikit waved to his new pal Humphrey the camel as we took off.
Speak soon Santa
I wonder where the reindeer and my key will end up next?

Today Scunner the Grumpy Elf told me about a Top Secret invention called the SPS – the Santa Positioning System. He thinks he can use it to find my magic key. I sure hope he can find it before Christmas Eve. Here’s the email he sent me today:
After our adventures over the Baltic Sea we all needed a rest.
Poor Tumshie was exhausted after the speedy flight. The good news was that I had a cousin in Germany. His name is Shuster and he makes and mends shoes. He told me that he often repairs your boots. I had never met him before but he is a very friendly Elf indeed. He made us a lovely meal. We had Potato Soup and then some Plum Tart.
After that we all went to bed and I slept for nearly twelve hours. When I woke up Professor Fumblebumble had arrived. I was so relieved. I have been worried about that poor reindeer and your key and wondering where they both are.
I suppose we should tell you what the secret invention is?
I had an idea after Last Christmas. I wanted to be sure that if you ever got lost in bad weather we could find you quickly. I thought that if we could make a wee machine that could track the magic you use then we would be able to find you faster than satellites.
It took a wee bit of doing but we got it working — mostly.
As your key is part of that magic then the SPS – Santa Positioning System should be able to find it.
The Professor has already got a signal and it is coming from Egypt. That’s far away so we are getting ready to leave.
I don’t know much about Egypt. Can you ask the children for some advice? What’s it like?
Okay Santa – I’ll let you know how we get on.
Bye for now
Egypt? I go there every year but only at night.
